Autumn days out with kids near Madrid
Autumn is a good time for a family day outdoors. Dinolandia is 50 minutes from Madrid, in the Sierra Oeste: life-size dinosaurs among pines and holm oaks, living plant sculptures and outdoor minerals, all with one ticket.
Tips for an autumn visit
Dress in layers
Mornings and late afternoons can be chilly. Bring layers that are easy to take off and put on, and comfortable shoes for unpaved paths.
Check the weather before you go
The whole visit is outdoors. Check the forecast for the day and bring a rain jacket if showers are possible.
It gets dark earlier
Autumn days are shorter, so plan ahead: the dinosaurs operate until 19:00, and the El Bosque Encantado lights switch on at 19:30 on scheduled lighting days.
Autumn colours
This is when deciduous trees change colour and the paths fill with fallen leaves — a lovely time for a family walk and photographs.
